QUEBEC CANADA

ROAD TRIP 2015

Montreal to Grand-Metis

Even tho I am a flight attendant and can fly anywhere in the world I love to do a small road trip in my own province each year and needless to say my sister had pic an awesome place to open her gite (bed and breakfast)

This time it was a long trip.
Ste-adèle to Grand-Métis

7 hours drive

with 2 of my friends I didnt see for 20 years and my dog.

I just did 3 overseas back and forth to London before that.

At 4:00 A.M. in the morning I grab a pile of summer clothing for the beach, a couple of moving boxes for my sister, Starlett food and toys and I was ready to hit the road with my dog and 2 of my friends that i didnt see for 20 years.

First stop pick up friend #1 in Ste-Anne-des-Lacs
A retired teacher.
It was pouring rain but we managed to squeeze her stuff into my small trunk.

Then second stop in Laval we picked up friend #2 who was coming from St-Jean Crhysostome
A grocery owner.
Still pouring rain and windy.

Starlett my dog had her last snif around the area before we left this shitty weather for beautiful sunny beach.

05:00 ish
we hit the road officially

We took the tunnel Hippolyte Lafontaine went on the Highway 20 east
stop for breakfast and a pee.
McDonald: dogs aloud
Yé come in Starlett its still raining!

Pass Quebec sign and continued on all the way to Cacouna where the road end and change to
132 East.
We stopped for gas in Riviere-du-loup and Starlett went  for a run and all.

Road 132 east
Double the fun of Highway 66 in America
iii

The scenery is spectacular on the 132
We kind of drove along the St Lawrence river
We could have stop at a lot of places for sight seing

Montmagny a typical village,  I visited ounce during those long months of winter.
but we didn"t.

Ile verte,  where I would love to retired.

Kamouraska, with dramatic scenery.
Nice place but we all had in high school to write a resume of this book called Kamouraska and all 3 of us realized we didnt read the book but our mom's did.
It was this novel on Kamouraska that made me hate the place for ever but now that I have seen this magnificent area perhaps I will watch the movie just for the sake of it one day or stop by on my numerous ride I will do for now on to visit my sister. So this was pretty funny to realized that we went to 3 different colleges and none of us red the book. We did met afterward at College.

St-fabien village just passed by. Its amazingly green and weird. This is where Denis Villeneuve will be filming his next movie or Ste Flavie not sure yet.

Rimouski city where you can bike for miles and discover a nice little place for a picnic or pack up before you go home In Grand Métis. I do recommand to stop and visit tho.

Unfortunately, we were on a mission,  to get to my sister's gite before dawn to see a bit of her new place. T
ime went by so fast with a lot of catching up on our lives and watching beautiful views that we made it without realizing we were that close to Grand Métis. We would have time to visit a little for sure.

So we stop in Mont joli for a fast food lunch  $7.00 and Starlett little walk. So far so good . She had been a good girl however she didnt want to lay down and sleep. She was looking out the window just like us.

Bring some cash if you ever come down here. Money is rare and instant bank machines as well.
In little pine shop or snack bar they rather: you pay by cash. Too bad for encouraging locals with their local products or art pieces.

We went to the liquor store to grab our provision of wine bottles, beer, ports and chips and hit the road one more time.

The St Lawrence River is meeting the ocean at this area where the Gaspesienne coast is starting.
Here they take credit cards.
All along that little road, looking at the water, the beaches was just spectacular.

Of course, the rain, the cold, was not supposed to be part of the trip but no one control the weather...
We had to do with it.

So we drove pass by Le jardin de Metis that was on our agenda while we were staying there and we continued on for another  4 km away to the gite.
From that big white chair of les Jardins de Métis you calculate 4 kms and you can see the gite. told my sister on the cellphone.
Right on.
You can take either way the small road along the ocean call Legatt or the high way turn left.

Here it was

My sister's new place.

                                                         LE GITE DU GRAND METIS

She decided to move down here for a nice and relax life where sunsets are to die for and this seashore cottage house a dream come thru. For her and her son this will be the place they call

                                                      HOME SWEET HOME

For ever.

So they were all happy to see us. My mom who drove before me bringing my sister truck while she was driving her moving truck, my sister, all arms opened to see us, and her dog Theo. all happy to see Starlett who made it all the way thru without any fuss.

Starlett was part of the girls road trip.

So we discovered the area, the Metis beach and we unpacked our stuff in a hurray to visit and do the grand tour of her new domain.

Wine glass in one hand, we were very pleased to visit the new place that will become
Le gite du Grand Métis.

Right after we went to celebrate at the restaurant to eat some lobster.

Dinner $126.00 for 2

The new house was something to celebrate the 20 years reunion was something to celebrate as well.

Jet lag  and all, we hit the bed without any problem to sleep that first night.

Waking up with an ocean view was awesome I went on with Starlett for a long long walk into the water doing some treasure hunting.

Came back before the tide after half an hour.

I was not the only one who woke up early and was all ready reading her book and admiring the ocean while sipping some fresh brewed coffee.

Morning started around the breakfast table set up by our lovely host with local products and fresh bread. Then everyone went on there different ways running, decorating, rearranging, unpacking calculating....
Meeting was set at every low tides on the beach for long long walks and well deserve rest.

We had decided to eat in for dinner that night so we tried to catch some clams unfortunately we had to go to the store to get some. We ended it up having garlic bread, ceasar salad, pasta vongole with shrimps and mussels sugar pie for dessert. We stayed at the dinning table for ever watching the incredible sunset. Just to make us hope that tomorrow will be sunny.

Of course the sun always showed up at the end of the day...
Days were darken by the rain but that didnt stop us to go around and visit.

We went to the post office.

                                                                            my friend

my mom who didnt want to leave the place so we stay one more day for her
                                                                    my friend
                                                                    me and Starlett
Your host at Le gite du Grand Métis
art from Deborah Nagan form London for the international art exhibit of Le jardin de Métis

Best stop for lunch at la cantine des voyageurs

Claude Gagnon  et Guillaume Gagnon local artists

Marcel Gagnon amazing art legacy to the region

oeuvre de Guillaume Gagnon in progress

We had a nice lunch in local restaurant watching the cormoran one day and the other day we went on watching those weird cows on top of the mountains at this tasty shack where shrimp guedille or lobster one with home made potatoe chips were to die for.

$10.50 unless you take 2 shrimp guedille like me...its a little more

It was tasty delicious,  with a friendly service; priceless.

We went on visiting le Vieux Moulin for award winning Hydromel tasting and great honey to bring back home. Museum visit was skipped as we ran out of time to do it all.

Afterwards we really enjoyed ourselves running around on the beach, rock climbing, rock trekking, reading...sleeping resting.

We help my sister by doing a preopening with all of us and 2 of her friends. The house was full to capacity and then we didnt see each other at all beside for meeting point at low tide cocktail on the beach or dinner preparation.

The best mussel chowders they ever had was made by me of course!

Long night walks, sea breeze and a glass of port will put ourselves back in a comfy bed at the gite for a good night sleep.

So we had to conclude that the sun will never show up on our road trip beside a couple of openings so we went to visit les jardins de Métis that day sun or no sun. We had waited for the sun to appear so it will be warmer but no. forget the sunshine the pictures will look dark what can I say. It was cold and we were kind of too early in June 8-9-10-11 to see a lot of flowers but the scenary, the walk was really nice. Interesting Mrs. Reford 's life in a french province.

If your friends prefer to go salmon fishing instead of flower watching the Mitis river is a great place for that. Need a permit tho.

We were invited for a cocktail at Le jardin de Métis and tasted beautiful appetizers. So I definetely recommand to eat at Estavan restaurant at the jardin de Métis the chef is really good; if you can afford it of course. form what I tasted Im sure you wont be disappointed.

Our road trip ended,

The gite was almost ready to be open and we drove back home in this wild civilisation of fast living and stress level nightmares.

However this being said you guys should go down in La Gaspesie and around to see Percé to ski in the sand ...to go to the lovely Maritimes...if time permits.

If not finish it up to Québec city and stay for 2-3 nights at least. Stay at one amazing indian hotel.

You can also catch a flight montreal Quebec and then rent a car there too go in the beautiful area of La Malbaie, Baie St Paul catch a ferry ($65.00) at St Simeon and spot some whales or
go back and drive take the bridge over on the other side of the St Lawrence river.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I recommand coming from overseas.

Rent a car go sight seing in Montreal.
Stay one night.
Have a great dinner and party.

Then go down to Le gite du grand Metis is a nice place to start your vacation and my sister used to be a tour guide so she will help you with your itineray and make sure you have a good time in Québec.

(call for reservation at Le Gite du Grand-Métis)

When  you arrive rent a car at the airport and drive all the way there.

You have time to unwine and rest for a couple of days in the area just to relax.

On your way back stay another day or 2 in Montreal for the jazz festival or some other events.

Drive for a week-end up North in Mont-Tremblant to do some wild activities like
branche en branche, ferrato, mountain bike, swimming in the lakes  or just relax at the spa.

On your way back, visit St-Sauveur village have a great dinner in this area (400 restaurants to choose from. This is where Montrealers come out and party during the week-end to play golf or ski) Hit the outlets stay over night in this quaint little village and on your way back the next day do some more shopping at some others outlets and drive to Montreal to catch a flight.

Many possibilities and things to do in Québec but do come up to meet friendly people.
