Qimin restaurant
Jade temple
nice weather in Shanghai
at night it is a little chilly
need a scarf but otherwise
its a great day
Shanghai yes!
Im going to Shanghai again yeah!
but
leaving my house in a state of catastrophy is not all you wish for especially so far away and when people around you are destroying your property.
You leave your home but you dont know how it will look like at your return its quite stressful.
I needed to put my robber boots to pass over the crater in front of my house with all my suitcases and my dog on a leash and jumped over to get into my mom's car for another time since mine has been an hostage for now 15 days.
Now up front of my property, it looks like Niagara fall.
So sad indeed.
It rips my heart!
Its a complete disaster. How can I leave
but I need to work like everybody.
I received no help from government, or city hall.
So, I arrived at the airport took a second to breath in and forget everything.
I put my friendly face of flight attendant.
I grabbed my suitcase and walk.
My cousin and her friend are on board going to China for 2 weeks so we planned to go for dinner together in Shanghai. I found a great organic place to try as she eats only organic food. Cool.
QIMIN FANDAN
YES!
I MANAGED TO GET ourselves to the restaurant. My mandarin is getting along even tho, these days, I didn't have the energy to study at all.
Yeah! now we can relax.
Its not too far from the marvellous Jiang temple.
We went to eat hot pot at Qimin. (Huoguo)
what a great place.
we had a good meal.
The atmosphere is great.
people are friendly and very patient.
The presentation is stunning.
Organic wonder land.
Sechuan hot pot
bamboo
Throw the meat in and wait for it to cook in a very aromatic bouillon
mongolian bouillon
9 on 10
Just for this mushroom dish presentation it is worth it. Look at this, right on the tree.
How more organic can it be. Awsome!
Maybe after my long flight and one cold draft beer it made me enjoyed this but no
look at this
spicy sechuanese bouillon hot pot
angus beef
organic rice
very tasty
There is nothing more to say.
It was a fun night in Shanghai.
Afterwards we walked around the nice Jian temple that I will visit another time
but afterwards I went to the hotel.
i was supposed to see the floating village the next day but couldnt get to sleep at all
people on the other roof looking in my room, very noisy air conditioning and of course; my house problem issues.
Slept from 11 to 3 oclock
turn, turn, turn.
It is not great to wake up in a shitty shape again. So I went for breakfast and decided to go see the Jade temple.
One more problem again. I had problem with my bank card not working in China as well as my credit card. Not fun.
2 days lost because of that
but I still had a bit of cash with me so
at least I could go somewhere. Even my cousin at dinner had a credit card issue so make sure you do have a back up when you go.
I took a cab and got to the temple. It was great. I waited in line with all the chinese tourist and boudhists who wanted to buy a ticket to get in. its well kept very nice to walk around.
Big race in Shanghai
This is probably the most disgusted breakfast I ever saw. Chicken fingers
I will never try it under a million dollar.
beautiful arrangement of organic food at the hotel
honey fresh from the bee...
when Chinese doesnt know what is going on they will tell you its a governement issues
Notice today its a blue sky. I never tought I could see a blue sky in Shanghai really
As the million hand Bouddah told me:
Do it yourself. Wait for your vacation in July. It will dry out and you can shovel the rocks that you will need to pave the road like it used to be before: A tiny country path. In the mean time, I can get enough money to buy a truck load of rocks. If worst come to worst.
But I don't need to pay for snow fall disaster.
The return flight was painful
lack of sleep of course
even on my break time, I could not sleep very well: too cold.
You can not just turn the switch off and sleep:
it doesnt work like this.
But while it was our turn to supervised the passengers, we decided to snack a bit after our hard work
my colleague and I. She decided to offer me something to snack on.
Actually, when we do those long flights, I always feel sick. Like motion sickness, I dont know.
Its been 2 weeks, Im feeling sick to my stomach; anyway, this being said, she offered me this Chinese snack.
I was sitting in the last row ready to try something new.
And suddenly she said:
Do you want duck tongue
I almost fainted when she said that
Are you kidding me I said to myself
She opened up a box and here they were in a box
Sometime, when something goes wrong in my life, I challenge myself
this was the moment
ok I told her
but when she grabbed one
I almost throw up.
I got up, pretending I was grabbing a coke to wash it off, you know and grabbed a bag of pretzel just in case it was horrible I could stuff my face with pretzel.
I could not say no to this poor young girl, who was just flying for a couple of months.
I could not do that.
I just told her: I was kind of a food critic
so
there you go,
I needed to eat it!
I finally pass my empty glass so she could put one tongue in my glass.
I was so afraid she made a mistake
It just look like scorpion
Are you sure they are not scorpion
She said no its duck tongue
ok
I keep taking picture not knowing what to do with the duck tongue
oh my god
ok
ok
but how am I suppose to tackle this
She explained to me to chew and pull and suck on it.
While she is eating one tongue after another at the speed of the Maglev train, Im still on my first duck tongue.
I tackle the tiny part
and
suck on it
brrr
and continued
and than I had to really chew the tongue
oh my god
its was really chewy and chewy
luckily there was a bit of sauce here to help eating the duck tongue
The left part is the chewy part the actual tongue the right part is probably the nerve that attach the tongue to the rest of the body.
I told her its not that bad, so, she grabbed another box full of duck tongues and pass it on to me
what the fuck no way!
she said take the box in a very soft chinese voice. I have one box here for me.
No way.
I can not do that. Its a delicatessen. You keep your box.
no take it
no keep the box
no we have to eat it before entering Canada
o no ok I will take one more but you keep the box
so I was stuck eating another duck tongue
omg!
quite an experience indeed
it made my day
it was fun to try something with a Chinese colleague who wanted to share her knowledge of Chinese cuisine food diversity...
I had a blast. We are definetely from another world and that is whats fun about it to discover new things.
I had another great time in Shanghai
what still amaze me, is to see that every where I went, I saw people planting trees, flowers.
China is really making an effort to be green.
See you next week for another visit in Shanghai
look at the highway plants growing on it
P.S. 2 panels that cover my balcony have been ripped off. One sign on the ground...
Welcome back to reality.
